Is-sinjal għal MALJA DENB IL-ĦUTA għandha żewġ partijiet. (i) L-ewwel isir is-sinjal għal MALJA. L-idejn jieħdu l-forma ta’ T fuq quddiem fin-nofs u jduru lura kontra xulxin xi darbtejn, b’id tibda qabel l-oħra. (ii) Imbagħad isir is-sinjal għal ĦUTA b’id waħda li tieħu l-forma ta’ 5 waqt li l-pala tħares ’il ġewwa. L-id timxi ħelu ħelu f’linja orizzontali kkurvata ’l barra u ’l ġewwa fid-direzzjoni opposta. Ix-xufftejn ġieli jieħdu l-forma qishom qed jipproduċu l-vokali ‘u’ jew jiffurmaw il-kelma ‘ħuta’ u kultant ‘fish’ bl-Ingliż.

The sign for FISHTAIL PLAIT has two parts. (i) First the sign for BRAID is made. The hands take the shape of T in the middle at the front. They turn back on themselves twice or more, one starting before the other. (ii) Then the sign for FISH is made with one hand in the shape of 5, palm facing inwards, gliding in and out in a curved horizontal line towards the opposite direction. The lip pattern is usually that for the vowel ‘u’ or for the whole word ‘ħuta’ in Maltese or occasionally for ‘fish’ in English.
